When It's Love as a set closer

You all know my hatred of Van Hagar but this just transcends that. How the hell do you end a concert with that crap (in fact how do you play such an '80s fad song at a concert in 2004)? The only LAMER song I can think of to close a set was Eric Clapton a few years ago closing his sets with "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."

When It's Love is a great song, but to close the set with.. Hmm.. Not the best choice.. i agree. Might have something to do the OU812 peaking to #1 on the album charts. I remember when that song was released.. like it was yesterday. Its was HUGE! My personal favorite's are "Feels So Good" and "Black And Blue" from OU812.
"Finish What Ya Started" was a biggie too! There are many fans that wanna here it, And thats why its part of the set.
Can't not include a song that helped sell millions of albums and helped push the album to #1.

I've always liked mine all mine best from that album... As for the topic. Yes, it is dumb to close with that song..

...as much as I hate hearing them play that damn song at every damn show(they have played it nearly every show since it came out--even with Gay Cherone)--it's better to hear it at the end of the show than in the middle. It's a pace killer, so it works to shut the end of the night down better than to put the set on pause somewhere earlier in the evening.
The DLR era tune I was sick of hearing was Ice Cream Man...what cheesy tune....

It's not great, but it was OK for me on this tour. Specifically, because the video screen split four ways with all four guys in close-up, just as the final "Na-na-na" section started. Goose-bump time.

Don't get me wrong, I like W.I.L. & I.C.M., but the whole beating a dead horse thing, ya know? When it's Love is exactly the same each performance, & Dave would just annoy the piss outta me doing the way too long intro into Ice Cream Man....But I love seeing/hearing Van Halen no matter what they play & who's singing...AVH could fart in a can & I'd still want it on CD!!!!

Now prolly 95% of the people in the audience at a Sammy VH concert will be all geeked up to hear that song 'cause its a radio tune & it's prolly their first or second time seeing VH & they wanna hear the hits. I have seen VH 55 times & I have prolly over 300 (just guessing) shows on tape/cd/video/dvd -- so I am looking for something different that I have not heard before. Thats what I am really digging about this tour--EVH winging (or somewhat winging) the guitar solo & the noodling intros to songs like Humans Being & Unchained--they seem to be improved & sorta unique each night....Unlike When It's Love...But I tell ya what, I was even geeked to hear that tune in Greensboro, it had been so long since I heard ANY VH song played live...

You hit the nail on the head. if Eddie plays well, that song really works. It's been so up and down this tour you never know which Ed is going to show up, and for how long.
