Lightbulb Downloading Guide - 02.18.06, 12:35 PM

DOWNLOADING GUIDE

Basic guide for downloading a show here at JTT, so that you can get started right away!

** Before you start downloading, please note that until you have been a member for 30 days, you can only download a maximum of two different .torrent attachments per day, unless you are downloading your OWN attachments. **

Step 1. Find a show you would like to download by visiting the Audio Bit Torrent or the Video Bit Torrent download forums. If you can't find a particular show, you can make a request for a new seeds or a re-seed in the Requests forum.

Step 2. Create a file folder on your desktop and call it JTT, or whatever you want.

(This is just a folder where you will store your downloads, so of course you can use any folder on your computer you want.)

Step 3. If you don't already have it, download Bit Tornado. Run the setup and install the application.

(There are many other programs you can use for bit torrents, but we recommend Bit Tornado because it's easy to use and works well with our tracker. You are free to use any program you feel comfortable with.)

Step 4. Once you find the show you want, the first thing to do is to click the "Thanks" button at the bottom of the post so that the torrent file will appear.

VERY IMPORTANT!! You need to click the "refresh" button on your browser after you have used the "Thanks" button or the download link won't appear.

When the download link below appears, simply left click your mouse button, and you should be asked if you want to open the file with a program. Choose "Bit Tornado" if it doesn't select it for you.

Step 5. Bit Tornado will then ask you for a place to save your download. Choose the folder that you created in Step 2, and click "OK."

(Or you can select another folder on your hard drive if you have one you use for music downloads, and click "OK.")

Step 6. Bit Tornado's download window will now open and you will immediately start downloading your show, as long as there is at least one user seeding. The circle in the top right should be green if your connection is working properly, but it can also display in blue, for a time as well. Don't worry, it should change to green. If it's red, it means you are behind a firewall and can't connect to any peers. You will need to change your firewall settings so you can download.

Step 7. We recommend that you leave your settings at "unlimited" which will give you maximum downloading/uploading capabilities. However, there are times when you may want to restrict that, so you can change those settings however you see fit.

Step 8. Note that you upload at the same time you are downloading, that's part of the beauty of the Bit Torrent technology. We do have Sharing Ratio Requirements here, so please make sure you familiarize yourself with those rules and policies, as we do strictly enforce them. After your show completes, simply keep your Bit Tornado open until you have uploaded as much data as you have downloaded. Sharing is that simple. The more people that share a show, the faster the download speeds will be for everyone!

Step 9. Once your download has completed, you can use whatever media player you like to listen to your files, or burn them to CD/DVD, etc. Read below what to do if you've downloaded FLAC or DVD files.

Done!

What To Do With .FLAC Files!

FLAC files are compressed data that can be decompressed without a loss in quality, and they are much smaller than WAV files. If you've downloaded .flac files, you can use a program called FLAC Frontend to convert them to .wav, so you can listen to them. After you setup and install FLAC Frontend, open it up and click the "Add Files" button to pick your files, and then hit "Decode" to convert them.

Also note that Winamp can play .flac files without converting them!

Done!

What To Do With DVD (.vob, .ifo, .bup) Files!

We are going to assume you want to burn your DVD files to an actual DVD. What you can simply do is burn the entire "VIDEO_TS" folder to a blank DVD using Windows' built-in CD/DVD-writing tool. Just go to the folder where you saved your files, right click on the VIDEO_TS folder, "Send It" to your DVD writeable drive, and burn.

Done!

That's all there is to this downloading stuff!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask in this thread, or post a new thread in the 'Technology And The Struggle' forum.

Thanks for your contribution to JamToThis!

Hmm are you sure you are sending it to the the DVD writeable drive? Do you have more than one drive? Either way though you should be able to send those files to either one.

You can use programs like WinDVD, PowerDVD or VideoLan. Windows Media Player will also play DVDs if you have a DVD Decoder installed.

Can you try a different program just to see. Try uTorrent or Azureus.

Programs like Burrn (free) or Easy CD-DA extractor will put FLAC's directly onto a CD. No need to convert. =)

Yellow light is definitely a firewall issue, please use the portforward link above to correct it.
