Posting Requirements - 08.07.05, 08:12 AM

All video material torrented here must include the following items:

a) Name of artist/band
b) Date of show, location of show
c) Audience or Pro-Shot...if Multi-cam, how many cameras
d) Whether the disc(s) is PC authored or from a Stand-Alone recorder
e) If it's PC authored, who authored it (many discs include a reference to the author, like Silver Stallion, or BTB, etc...)
f) Format of video (NTSC or PAL)
g) Track listing
h) Approximate running time
i) A comment on the quality of the video and audio, including specs

Place the files in a unique folder on your hard drive (name it something related to the show, like "vh-19840703dvd"

In this folder you should have a sub-directory called VIDEO_TS which will contain the main video files from the DVD. In addition, you may also have folders like AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_RM, depending on your disc.

A txt file must also be included containing the information from a-i above.

MD5 sums must be included as well. They can be generated using a program like this one: http://www.md5summer.org/
The reason for including MD5 sums is so that the person downloading the show can verify the integrity of the files downloaded. The MD5 sums should also be included in your first post with the torrent.

In addition to all of the above, some screen shots from the DVD would be good to have in many cases. One of the menu and a couple from the video spread out through the show. Basically just looking to give everyone a general indication of quality in addition to the textual description you've already provided.

Above is a list of posting requirements for video torrents posted on jamtothis.com

This list is open for discussion and debate. It will by updated/modified as necessary.

The hope is to create a bit of uniformity in the torrents as well as cut back on some of the more common questions that seem to come up. Thanks!

hey ron not trying to step on any toes
but doesn't Azereus check the integrity of the file?
I assume other bit torrent clients do too but not sure
either way it's a good idea and this was a long time coming
Thank you for the changes

now what if we don't know the track listing?
I had no idea what songs were what from some of the bands
when I did the Monterrey Metal Fest or the Super Rock '85 in Japan

just askin

Yes, I'm sure it does (I don't use that client). However, the addition of MD5 sums helps you assure the integrity of the files even after the download is complete. If it's posted in a torrent it would also help someone verify whether or not they have the same show already, and could possibly help seed. It's the same with audio torrents. While the client checks things as they are being downloaded, we still include FLAC Fingerprints or MD5 sums as another way to assure the integrity of the download.

Take your best guess, leave blanks for songs you don't know. Others will help fill in the blanks. (hopefully)

That's right, the point is to get a "master" checksum out there to verify that people down the road trading by mail, or people that want to re-seed, have the same thing as everyone else. This is especially important for audio because the FLAC Fingerprints safeguard against the possibility of someone burning them to audio CDR and then re-ripping.

I think this is an awesome list. I hate seeing Torrents that have almost NO information. I also don't care for Torrents that are ISO files (which I think can't be Torrented here at JTT). I think having MD5 files is great and I think having the proper structure as you layed out is perfect. I really like this. As far as the track listing if any information can be provided it would be awesome and if you don't know a song just leave a blank. I often do searches at phishhook.org or wherever to see if I can find setlists. If you don't know the tune and leave it blanks I'm sure someone will later in the thread fill it in. No biggie. Knowing the author, if the disc has been authored, is excellent too. I like these requirements!

Too funny! I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that.
Sorry to disappoint, but I only did that as an example. No such DVD exists that I know of.

2. How do you tell if it is PC authored or Stand Alone?
thanks guys for bearing with me.. and answering these stupid questions... just want to cover all the bases to make sure i don't screw something up... " Hey man I think that guy is a couple cans short of a six pack" well thanks guys.. later all..

You can tell stand alone discs by the menu (usually). Two of the more popular types look like these:

Also, stand-alone discs usually have chapter marks at pre-set intervals (like every 5 minutes) instead of at the beginnings of tracks/songs.

Keep in mind that I said, "usually", as some stand-alone recorders allow the insertion of proper chapter marks.

Ron did an excellent job of answering the Stand Alone question but as far as the others ...

I would think if you know if it is NTSC or PAL you should indicate it, if you don't know, say you don't know. Saying "NTSC/PAL: Unknown" is better than nothing. If you don't know that's OK, just say so, no biggie. That's as far as I'm concerned Moderators and Admins may correct me if they feel different.

Lastly, there are no stupid questions so keep 'em coming ...

Sort of OT, but here goes. I see the need for enforcing posting requirements, but why are we letting people post here and download when they have ratios like this one?

Yes, that _is_ off-topic for this forum. Please take that discussion to this thread:

If you use Cyberlink powerDVD you can check it under the configuration screen under the tab information.

Video compression mode: MPEG-2
TV system: 625/50 (PAL)
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Display Mode: Both Pan&scan and Letterbox
Source picture resolution: 720x576 (625/50)
Frame Rate: 25.00
Source picture letterboxed: Not letterboxed
Bitrate: 2.34Mbps

I'm sure other players have the same option.

Btw i see no disclaimer about vcd sourced dvd's does that mean lossy formats are allowed?
