Hi, guys.
It's me or they didn't ever play Push Comes to Shove live ?
Would be great to see (or listen) how Eddie implements that monster arragements and that incredible solo live. Anybody saw/listened to (or better, recorded :D ) that ?

Thanks, Ron.
Anyway, it's rumored have been played on the '81 tour.
Maybe somebody around here who went to could confirm that, but man, it's been a long time, more than 20 years
There are a couple songs that fall under the "rumored to be played on tour" category, one being Push and the other being "Drop Dead Legs." My opinion, knowing how VH stuck to the same setlists over and over, I doubt they were played since we don't have a recording of either of them being played.
This would be a good thing to transfer to the SET LIST forum :D

I completely agree Lou. :thumb:
Done.
Regarding setlists:
The band rarely changed them, as we all know. I think that's what makes the South American tour shows so cool. The Quebec City 84 show is cool because of the inclusion of ICM and Summertime Blues. One smart person I know has speculated that they may have been recording for a live album that night and wanted the different songs.
Here's another bit of variety on the 84 tour. If you have last year's Guitar World Presents Guitar Legends: Van Halen" issue (it has silver colored cover), look at page 56. There is photo of EVH drinking and smoking backstage in his stage clothes. Taped to his practice amp is the following setlist:
Unchained
Hot For Teacher
"Drum Solo"
On Fire
Devil
---
Li'l Guitars
Cathedral 2:03
House Of Pain
"Bass Solo"
Jamie
I'll Wait
-Sword-
Panama
Girl Gone Bad
Jump
Full Bug
"Solo"
Pretty Woman
---
Everybody
----
Ain't Talkin'
---
Got Me
So while this is not indisputable proof, it does strongly suggest that the band switched up the setlist at least one other night on the 84 tour and actually played the Full Bug, EWS as an encore (which I presume means that DLR didn't talk for 10 minutes in the middle), played Panama in the middle of the set, and switched up ATAL and YRGM.
This is why we need to keep looking for uncirculated shows.

yes, but the setlist-photo you referenced was taken backstage during 1984 Tour rehearsals ... i don't think that setlist even made it to the first official shows (Florida, i think??). No Full Bug, for certain. Sittin'OnTopoftheWorld Jam, tho, was bonus.
 anyhooooo ... the answer to the question: VH never played the song Push Comes To Shove live. Not even partially.
Not in front of a paying audience, at least. And, rehearsals were essentially non-exisitent for the tour; *that shit* didn't start until the next tour(s). Ed may have channeled bits&pieces of PC2S during jams/his solopiece on the FW Tour, tho ... naturally.
Noodles,
Just curious - how do you know that shot was taken at rehersals? One thing that makes me think that it was taken during the actual tour is that Unchained opens the show and On Fire comes a couple of songs later, yet at the Lakeland and Hollywood, FL shows, they opened with On Fire and played Unchained third in the set. Of course they could have made a last minute switch but to me it seems at least possible that the picture was taken later.
And of course, you are right, no tapes exist of them playing "Full Bug" on the 84 tour.
BTW, EVH did not add the Cream "Sittin" jam until at least 3/7/84. That is the chronologically earliest show that he played that piece that exists on tape at least.
And I agree, I don't think Push was ever played live.

Actually they opened up with "Unchained" for Lakeland, so it's just Hollywood, FL that has "Unchained" and "On Fire" switched. It'd be cool if there was a recording of the 1984 rehearsals.
Lou,
Thanks for pointing that out. I stand corrected.
Years ago, Fletch and one other person claimed that they had at least an incomplete copy of the tour rehearsal on tape and if you look at the art for "Reunion I", it says that the guitar solo on Reunion I is from the 84 rehearsal. The only problem with that claim is that EVH plays "Sittin'" in the "Reunion" solo, which he did not start playing until March. Later, it was conceded by the key figures that the solo did not actually come from the rehearsal but rather from a *still* uncirculated April 84 show.

Fortunately, the '84 shows are so cookie-cutter that if there is one uncirculated, you probably won't be missing much. UNLESS, it's one like Quebec City 4/21/84, but I doubt there's another one of those that was recorded. The 1984 tour has the most shows circulating and only two of them have different setlists by design, Hollywood 1/21/84 and Quebec 4/21/84. There are a couple others where the band had unexpected problems like Reno 5/7/84 (Eddie's guitar goes out during EWS) and Las Vegas 5/15/84 (Dave gets hit in the eye with a coin and the band has to stall before I'll Wait). Then there's a couple that are slightly different. New York 3/31/84 has a longer keyboard solo and Evansville 7/7/84 has a very long keyboard solo. Dallas 7/16/84 where the solo has part of "Women In Love..." in it. But you have to really reach to call it a "different" setlist during that tour except 1/21/84 and 4/21/84.
Hi all -
OK, so I emailed Neil Zlozower, the photographer, hoping he might remember where he took the picture with the different setlist. Here's what he wrote. His comments are in bold:
<Hi Neil -
I know you must get a lot of crazy questions from VH fans like me who look at your great pictures perhaps a bit too closely, but I wanted to run something by you.
In last year's Guitar World Presents Guitar Legends: Van Halen" issue (it has silver colored cover), look at page 56. There is photo you took of EVH drinking and smoking backstage in his stage clothes (yellow zebra jacket). It looks to be a part of set of shots you took right before they took the stage. He is standing next to three guitars in front of a cinder block wall. Taped to his practice amp is a setlist that is different from the typical VH 84 show (I collect live VH shows), so I was wondering, do you know where (what city or date) you took that picture? The setlist is different from all the other ones that exist on tape.
I wouldn't have a clue!!!! All the shows I shot (which were a LOT) sorta all blend into one big show!!!!
In any event, I love your work. It really captured the band in their prime and always brings back good memories of the old days. Actually, when I see new photos by you that I haven't seen before, I always buy a copy of whatever magazine it is.
Cool, man!!! Thanks!!! I appreciate that!!!!

So no dice there. He seems like a very nice guy though, and somehow, that warms my heart to know that all the shows "blend into one big show" for him. That means that the VH 1984 tour was like one giant lost weekend. :D

Noodles,
Just got another email from Zloz. He says he was there at the Jacksonville rehearsal and it is possible that he took the shot there, but then again he could have taken it anywhere. So you may be right that that setlist was the rehearsal setlist. The "Full Bug" inclusion seems like that would fit with the rehearsal setlist because it would be a holdover from the DD days.
OK, I'm going to stop now because I think I am the only person here who cares about this.
:D

Well I for one would be excited if the Jacksonville rehearsals got liberated. To hear those songs done in 1984 sound would be neat.

Nah, I love this stuff too! I have dreams of finding uncirculated shows...thats cool that you heard back from Zloz...
There are lots of Van Halen Geeks like us out there...
Geek is such a harsh word. I usually refer to myself as that with Star Wars but never VH. Fanatic is SO much better!!!!
