Error's

Does anyone else have problems connecting to the tracker when at work? If so any ideas why? I get an error everytime. I don't have any problems connecting to easytree or any other public trackers. :(

Use my cable at home, and my DSL at work... both with no problem. Had to open up a port on my router at the office, but other than that, it's been seemless.

Using any funky equipment at work...hardware or software? Routers, Firewall, Dynamic/shadowed/masked IP???

No I don't think so! We have a firewall but I dont think is blocks anything, more of an access point for the T1 connection. I don't know I use to be abel to connect here now I cant.

I sometimes have similar problem when I try to get some torrents on my work computer. At times, it has taken me up to 10 tries before I get connected to the tracker. Damndest thing I tell you. Not sure what is causing that... but I just keep trying it and I eventually get it.

I know this isn't much help, but I wanted to let you know I feel your pain...

What EVH said to check for is correct.

For anybody trying to connect from work and can't, if you're in a big office and a have a network admininstrator ask him if he's blocking ports 6881-6889. If you're using Azureus just see if port 6881 is open. Honestly if he's/she's a smart admin. he would be blocking these ports because he/she would know bit torrent programs use these ports and he's/she's monitoring the traffic being sent over these ports, bandwidth costs the company money and will slow the network down reducing productivity. Also see if they have a proxy server setup. Asking him/her about this might raise a red flag so it's up to you.

In Strungs case, if you have no problems connecting with other trackers on other sites this most likely isn't the problem. This is personally why I like Azureus because if the smiley face is green you know you're connected. With the regular bit torrent program you can be downloading/uploading and still might not be correctly connected to the tracker. Only way to see is to stop the download after a while and refresh the page on the site that has your stats and see if your ratio is changing.
