As sad as it is, I have to wait till tomorrow to start downloading this cuz I don't have enough room left on my HD :notme: Got some SERIOUS burning to do tomorrow so I can free up some space. I've got 71gigs of random VH stuff on my CPU that needs backed up and then deleted  God I love this site :D

Thanks Lou. As I said, I've been wanting to add this one to the collection for a while now. This will be my first 84 video, so I'm totally psyched

I'm sorry to spoil all the fun, but the best possible video of this show was created by Digital Reproductions. It is a 2 DVD set.

Here are the details:

Taken from a 1st gen video source of a BetaMax Master->SVHS->Digital8 lineage. This is a phenomenal audience film from the 1984, especially so considering how little footage there is of that tour. The camera work is much better than on the 1982 film from the same location. The equiment is better and the zoom is much tighter than on that recording. The shot is very steady for the majority of the show and follows the band members around very well. It's amazing to see the full panoramic shots of the stage and how elaborate that set was (especially for those of us too young to have seen that tour).

While the video is fantastic, the audio recording isn't the greatest, but it is the best it is going to get. The audio is mainly lacking in high end due to the camcorder equipment of that time. There is also some wicked bass distortion that crops up during "Everybody Wants Some". The show is presented complete with the only edits being during long breaks between songs towards the end of the show. You can hear the band and the crowd is relatively low in the mix with no distracting participants near the filmer. Overall this mono recording just lacks the fidelity to rate it any higher. The show itself is a great performance in front of a very, very enthusiastic crowd.

Special features include nearly two hours worth of bonus material. There are three different interviews presented in slide show fashion. On the first DVD there is the "In the Studio" 15th Anniversary special on the making of the 1984 album featuring Alex, Eddie and Michael. On the second dvd there are a pair of radio interviews. The first is a Rockline special from February 20, 1984 with David, Alex and Michael that's even more nuts than the Rockline specials from 1982 complete with an in studio stripper! The second radio interview is from the BBC Rock Hour series from February 5, 1984 featuring David Lee Roth in fine form. The audio companion to the DVD video release and can also be found on the dvd disc two in lossless SHN format. The artworks for the DVD and the CD versions are included on disc. All the artwork and menu's feature previously unreleased photos from the 1984 tour taken by the CBG. Lastly, the md5 checksums for the audio and video files are included on disc to facilitate accurate copying and trading.

Production specifics. The video was transfered from digital 8 tape via a Sony TRV-340 over firewire into a computer using Adobe Premier Pro. Video was then encoded with TMPGEnc at 8000kbps CBR with all settings to highest quality. Audio was digitally remastered in Adobe Audition and encoded as Dolby Digital 2.0 at 448kbps. The dvd was then authored using Sonic Scenarist. Special thanks to the CBG for acquiring the video source used for this production and for the photographs used in the artworks. As with all Digital Reproductions releases, this is for free trade or blank media trade only. Not to be bought, sold or distributed for profit. Help keep the spirit of trading alive and well.

I'm sorry, but my bandwidth is too small to share DVDs, but if someone likes to seed this one over here, please give me a PM for a physical trade.

Lou, sorry for all the effort you did for getting this torrent up. I hope that you can understand me in only sharing the most purest forms!

Yeah you know I'm sorry for polluting the VH trading community. After all I seeded that dastardly Fresno 9/5/82 1st gen with a couple of inaudible sector boundary errors, I didn't provide artwork for Greensboro 8/25/81, and now this (an established authored version of this show for some time). With assuredly better versions of all these shows floating around from the people at vhtrading.com perhaps I should just stop.

Lou,

I'm at your side.

Just as you I want the best for all.

At the moment we traded for Montreal 84, that show was the best I had.

I missed the tree for Scorin at the forum and got my show in last week, via, via, via....

Normally I don't look into the video sharing section, because my bandwidth is too low, but I could see this thread at the mainpage, so I got interested.

I'm sorry for my post earlier.

Nah...

I'm sure this version is absolutely an upgrade to anybody who doesn't have the show on DVD yet, and there's nothing wrong with spreading it out to people.
Just now that I learned there's even lower gen version out there, I'll rather try obtaining the best right away...

By the way, Lou, I got to thank you also for letting out the Oakland '81 low gen audio source - best version I've yet come upon - which has been lately re-torrented @ easytree.

I was the one (BTB Productions) who authored this show & it's right from a 1st GEN VHS that I purchased from the filmer back in '84. The production & extras on the new 2 DVD version is cool but I don't think the quality is much better. It's CRAZY when these people complain about one copy being better then another?!?!! I'll try to get some new stuff up here on the list soon. My computer is usually busy making new DVDs though ;-)

11.12.04, 05:22 PM
If you have an external burner hooked up to a USB port, then you can't use DVD-R's, you have to use DVD+R's. Just a crappy Nero quirk. However if your burner is internal, you should be fine.

11.12.04, 05:33 PM
Hey Lou- just finished this early this morning and it rocks for an audience tape. I REALLY appreciate all the work you have done on these- I know it takes tons of time.

What in your opinion is the best pro shot from the DLR era? I got live in Sao Paulo and it is very good- probably the best that I have seen. Comments?

BTW, I have an external Firewire DVD burner (LG-GSA 5120D) and Nero 6 Ultra that burns all DVD media I can throw at it- lately I have done a bunch of DVD-R with no problems.

Lou
11.12.04, 05:38 PM
Yeah the firewire works fine, it's the USB 2.0 (which I have) that will not jive with it.

Asking what's the best pro-shot is a tough call. There are really four you have to look at--Largo 10/12/82, Sao Paulo 1/21/83, Buenos Aires 2/11/83, US Fest 5/29/83. If Buenos Aires were complete it'd be the hands down winner. I'd have to say, if you put a gun to my head and made me choose one, I'd go with Sao Paulo because it's complete and the set list is killer. It also has a fantastic "Somebody Get Me A Doctor."

Rikk
11.12.04, 07:50 PM
I actually use my Ulead DVD-Workshop 2 to do the burns. I has a "build disc from image" option that works well. Flawless discs. Nero I could also use, although I find Nero too quirky.

Thanks again, Lou. I can't wait to watch this fucking concert! Haven't seen it in 10 years.

First off, thanks for this awesome so. I'm having a problem however.

I'm using Nero to burn the DVD. I keep getting a "file relocation" error. I burned it and it works fine on the PC, but not on the home DVD player. ANy suggestions?

I've had this with some other shows i've downloaded lately (Greensboro 2004, MSG 1998)

I'm not a fan of Nero, so my comments are biased. Is anyone that isn't using Nero having the same kinds of problems? Seems to me that there have been a bunch of Nero complaints lately. I've always heard "things" about Nero, that's why I don't use it. Have you checked for a Nero upgrade that may fix the problems?

I don't know... I keep mine constantly up to date... I use Nero 6 Ultra Suite (not just burning rom), and I'm one of the ones who will testify to its flawless use on my system. I use it to burn my CDs, DVDs, View, Edit, Rip... name it, and I've never had a problem.

I have heard reports of it being a little picky about what harware it's being used with, but I've never had a problem.

Suppose it comes down to what will let you watch the f'n things, eh? :D

Funny...I was about to post the same thing!! :o

Anyway, after much research online, the experts agree that this is just a "thing" with Nero. The general advice is: if you are certain that you have the files that you need, go ahead and burn the DVD. There is a better than average chance that the DVD will work fine in your home player. But don't be surprised if doesn't.

With this particular show, the first DVD I burned was buggy. The second was fine. So there you go. :dunno:

Good point, and nice try... but I still hold to my convictions. :D

I, personally, did not experience Nero wanting that file in order to burn the CD... I was only responding to someone else's issue... As for the logical block size of 2kb, Nero IS correct... Many middle-aged DVD players that were freshly capable of reading DVD-/+R discs INSISTED on the file allocation be a logical block size of 2kb, or it simply would not play. Nero is merely letting you know that before the CD is burnt. Most times, the message is not an "Error," although that's what people refer to it as, it's just a warning that the DVD may not play. If you ignore the error and burn, it'll play. If your player is capable of reading an illogical block size, that is.

In short, neither the first error, nor the second warning message have ever been an issue to me on my machine. So I still testify to its flawless use on my system :thumb:

Tryin' to toss my words back at me. Bastard :D

It's something I've tried to live by when it comes to software. I may not be using the best there is available, or the latest revision, etc... but if it's working for me, that's all that matters. That's one of the reasons I'm still using BitTornado. It just works. No muss. no fuss. Now if I only had more bandwidth. :)

Boy, if that ain't the common complaint! :D Yeah, I know what you mean bro. I was using Bit Tornado perfectly. Only reason I switched to Azureus was because there were others having issues with BT... and I had to come up with some instructions and stuff like that... so I had to get it and use it. By the time I was done, I just couldn't see switching back, ya know?

You're right though man... use what works for you. I don't care if I'm using software that's 5 years outdated... if it does the job, it's perfect for me :thumb:

Hope this isn't a dumbass question, but...

Is this boot the same thing as Quarum at the Forum? Just now getting around to burning it and trying to find artwork, etc. If it's not the same thing, is there "official" artwork for this one?

It's getting kind of hard keeping track of the "well-known" boots and all the stuff pouring onto sites like this. Ain't it great?! :D

Thanks again Lou!

Thanks for the info. I tried to register at vhtrading but kept getting redirected to

http://x-radio.info/forum/

which looks like some hacker's site. I scanned for spyware, didn't find anything. Anyone else have this problem? :dunno:

Anyway, so this boot is a better master than Quarum at the Forum? Just trying to figure out if I should ignore Quarum if I see it around, knowing that I have a better version.

Really? I think Largo is better than Sao Paulo, it seems alot clearer

Yeah you know I'm sorry for polluting the VH trading community ... With assuredly better versions of all these shows floating around from the people at vhtrading.com perhaps I should just stop.

Lou, don't stop! Thanks for Seeding. Thanks to all those who have carried on the Seeding. I don't know if the DR version is better or not but we all know BTB does quality stuff. I'm gonna grab this one and if DR is better, well, I'll get it in time but this will due for now and I'll be very happy with it!

I will put it back on for a couple days.

I am new to this and find that this and both brazil DVDs play fine on my computer but when I go to burn them I get a DVD-Video files reallocation failed message.
I burned once anyway and it will not play on my DVD player.
I tried using IF0edit and still no go....any suggestions?

I burned Largo with no problems so I don't get why these ones are causing grief.

BTW...I am using Nero

ron

Nero seems overly picky sometimes. Just choose to ignore the errors when burning with Nero.

Not sure why Sao Paulo did not work...I will have to try again.

WACF...I guess you didnt see my response to this at rotharmy...

since alot of people dont re-name their VIDEO_TS folders when they make the torrents...if you have more than one VIDEO_TS downloading to the same place (ie, 'Music Download' folder or something) then the data gets mixed up...this has happened to me three times when trying to download a DVD...
