Ok guys, when I wrote my how-to, I based all my instructions on using Bit Tornado as your torrent handler. It's what I had experience with and what I could quickly write a tutorial on.After hearing a lot of remarks from SinnerSwing, Eric, POD, and others I looked into Azureus, and found that it seems to work more efficiently. If nothing else, it removes the glitchy errors in Bit Tornado, and it's easier to use.

You can download the program from http://azureus.sourceforge.net. Installing is easy, although if you have a fairly fresh or new operating system, you may need to download and install a desktop Java environment. Azureus will tell you if that's the case and direct you to the right place. It's a breeze. :thumb: There is also a FAQ that many of you may find useful http://azureus.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/AzureusFAQ (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/AzureusFAQ)

You still seed and download torrents the same way, you just use Azureus to open your Bit Torrent files. The interface looks like any P2P program of old (napster, WinMX, etc.). If you want to download a torrent, just save the torrent attachment to any location you choose (like you would with any other file). Once you have the torrent file, either double click on it (if Azureus is your default handler), or open up Azureus yourself and when it asks, allow it to be the default handler. Then just go to file=>open torrent.

In short, I would probably recommend using Azureus as your Bit Torrent client. Just seems to be simpler and more efficient. You can still follow the original How-To on BTs, just replace the Bit Tornado parts with Azureus :D They operate pretty much the same way.

It's really easy. Special thanx to Sinner for some good insight on this one :thumb:

Post any questions in the Tutorial thread if you would please. I would like to keep this area primarily for documentation and side-notes, as Eric suggested. Would probably help keep this place more organized, especially considering this is new ground for many, and I'm sure there are going to be plenty of questions.

Thanks everyone :thumb:

Well, 2 days, and I still can't get it to seed the *&$%()#&^ torrent I made. :D

I tried using the torrent file I created with MakeTorrent 2, but when I follow these instructions: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/SeedExistingFile it checks the file, but never moves it down to seed it, even when I force a re-check.

Any ideas?

Steve, I can't be sure about your issue but this is where I had the most trouble. I pasted this part from EVH's readme.

Phase 3: How do I create my own torrent? (This is the one that has MANY successful solutions, but here's the easiest way to do it.

1) Download MakeTorrent 2 from Here and Install it.
2) Create a "root" folder for the torrent. Ex. For the US Festival 3CD boot I posted, I titled the root folder "3CD US Festival."
3) Copy EVERYTHING you want the torrent to include into that folder
4) Remember (or cut) the name - we're going to insert it into 2 spots within MakeTorrent
5) Open Make Torrent and Click on the "Classic" Button in the upper left.
6) Click "Browse" next to the filename field (sometimes the button is cut off, but you can still click it...it's to the right), and select the root folder that you created.
7) Click on the "View/Edit Torrent" tab and paste that folder name into the "Torrent" field AND the "Name" Field
8) Now Highlight, R-Click, and Copy this address: http://www.jamtothis.com/tracker/announce.php - We will paste it into 4 spots in MakeTorrent
9) In the "Create Torrent" tab, paste it into the "Tracker" field
10) In the "View/Edit Torrent" tab, paste it into the "Announce URL" field
11) In the "Settings" tab, paste it into the "Name" Field, then click Add.
12) Also paste it into the "Announce URL" field
13) In the "Website URL" field, type http://www.jamtothis.com
14) Go back to the "Create Torrent" tab and click the "Create Torrent" button in the lower right
15) Title the torrent file the same as the root folder and save it someplace convenient (but NOT IN the root folder)

Now you have created a torrent.

The torrent isn't the problem. I'm trying to seed the torrent I've been using for the Worcester show.

When I try and seed with Azureus, it checks the file, but instead of moving down into the seed window at the bottom of the screen, it actually starts downloading the file from the leechers that already have some of it. :dunno:

Aaah. I understand what's happening now. You're not saving to the proper location.

You have to tell Azureus to save to torrent to the same location as your "root" folder.

So let's say you're torrent is called XYZ, and the folder with all the files is probably XYZ. When you tell Azureus to save the torrent, you have to tell it to save to wherever XYZ folder is located. So if you have XYZ folder on your desktop, then when you tell the program to save, you have to choose the desktop. If XYZ folder is in another folder called BOB, then you have to tell Azureus to download to BOB...

When you download a torrent, it saves your "root" folder on the downloaders computer wherever they choose. You have to tell it to save the folder to where the folder ALREADY IS... if it's all there, then you'll start seeding. If it verifies all the data, but downloads anyway, then the data in the folder doesn't match the torrent data (ie, you've moved files out of that folder since the torrent was created.) You MUST make sure that the folder remains unchanged after the creation and upload of the torrent file.

I'm pretty sure it's one of those two things going on. Try that out and get back to me. In the even that you have altered the files in the folder since you created the torrent, if you haven't modified the files, then copying everything back into the folder should solve the problem. If I were you, I would start over to be sure... but I know that's a pain, so try whatever you want...just let me know if you still need help :thumb:
