Does anyone know why they never recorded any of the cover songs they played in their club days? I would have thought that when it came time to make a quick album (DD) that they would have reached back to some of the tunes that they already played.

Any insight would be appreciated.

The first thing that I thought of was that some of the covers they used to do in the club days (Led Zep, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Kiss, Bad Company) were to popular on their own for VH to put out as covers tunes. I am not sure if I am putting it the right way, but these songs had only just come out in the mid 70's and for VH to put them on an album in 1982, it would have been to soon. Or maybe those songs were just so identifiable to the original artists, that it would have been strange to cover them. I do have no doubt that VH would have put out smokin versions of whatever they had done.

My only comparison would be if Motley Crue would have covered Panama in 1989 just 5 years after VH had put out Panama. That would have been pretty lame.

Covers are tricky, you need a song that you can make your own. To many bands have put out bad covers over the years.

Yeah that would have been weird for VH to put "Last Child" on an album. I think they just liked to put the "oldies" on there. Even "You're No Good" is an oldie right...Linda Ronstadt didn't write the song.
